Carhartt | Alaskan Survival Stories
JUSTIN RODGERS | DILLINGHAM, AK
Web video I produced for Carhartt in the fall of 2008. A small crew and I (myself, writer, and a cameraman/editor) traveled to Alaska after tracking down several individuals with incredible survival stories. We captured their stories and produced three videos for Carhartt… this is one of the better stories. Dillingham, AK, for the record, can only be reached by plane or boat – one of the most remote areas I’ve ever visited.
CAPTAIN JOHN | HOMER, AK
Another incredible story from the last frontier. Captain John is a charter fisherman out of Anchor Point, Alaska, and several years ago, he survived the freezing waters of the Gulf of Alaska by clinging to the hull of his sinking boat, so his crew and passengers could remain safe and dry in the lifeboat.
A small agency crew (myself-producer, writer, and cameraman/editor) traveled to Alaska after contacting several individuals with incredible survival stories, and Captain John was one of our favorites – a gregarious fellow with a penchant for storytelling.
This is the agency version of the video – with actual footage of the sinking and eventual rescue; one of Captain John’s passengers kept their VHS camera rolling during the entire incident, which made for incredible b-roll.
